Based on the first novel about contemporary Afghanistan to be written in English, the stage adaptation of The Kite Runner portrays the relationship of two boys — Amir, a privileged Pashtun, and Hassan, a Hazara servant. This Literature to Life award winner, adapted and directed by Wynn Handman, features one hour of verbatim performance from the first third of Khaled Hosseini’s poignant best-seller. The one-actor show, performed by Sorab Wadia, mirrors the original short story written by the author and uses original Afghani music as a backdrop. Through the eyes of Amir, the young protagonist, the actor takes audiences on a heartbreaking journey of friendship and betrayal in a society marked by severe class division. The actor portrays eight fully realized characters during the virtuosic performance.
