September 16-18, 11AM-4PM, Bryce Jordan Center
Fall Career Days is set for this week! Fall Career Days is a week of career fairs combined with some on-campus interviewing, information sessions, and workshops held by employers who are recruiting students on campus.
The majority of the employers at Fall Career Days represent corporate America. If you are interested in working for a large corporation, the fair may be a fit for you. Nonprofit and government agencies typically do not attend the Fall Career Days fairs, although there are some exceptions.
For the majority of Liberal Arts students, the relevant fair days are as follows:
Non-Technical Full-Time Career Fair: Tuesday, September 16, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Internship and Co-op Career Fair: Wednesday, September 17, 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Check out these last minute tips:
- The most important thing you can do to prepare for the fair is to research the employers attending and make a top 5 or 10 list of those with whom you would like to speak.
- The Directory of Employers attending the fair can be found on the Fall Career Days website. You can click on the day you will be attending and search by job category. The directory will include sample positions for organizations in which you are interested. But we highly recommend that students ALSO visit the organization’s website, in addition to Network Symplicity (for internships) and Nittany Lion Career Network (full-time positions and internships), to view open positions with the organization.
- Remember that no bags are allowed in the Bryce Jordan Center!
- Make use of the NLCN Mobile Site in preparation for and at the fair!
- If you missed the Marketing Your Liberal Arts Degree presentation last week, the slides are now available in the Document Library/Resources in Network Symplicity.
- Resumania will occur on Monday, September 15. Resumania gives you a chance to have your resume reviewed by HR professionals at a variety of organizations. Appointments are not necessary: simply stop by the Career Services Center (head to the second floor) between 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM.
- Other tips for making the most of the Career Fair can be found on the Fall Career Days website.
Penn State students are also encouraged to log onto Penn State Career Connection on LinkedIn to participate in discussions in the Career Fair Preparation subgroup. Have conversations with employers before you step one foot in the Bryce Jordan Center for Fall Career Days. Topics discussed will range from resume tips, interview questions to ask or prepare for, how to land an internship or job and so much more. Don’t let the opportunity to gain valuable knowledge pass you by!
