Student applications are sought for the SLS Advisory Board for the 2015-2016 academic year. The SLS office provides legal counsel, advice, representation, and referral services to Penn State University students at the University Park campus.
Terms of the student appointments to the board run from September 2015 through May 2016. The board will meet once in the fall semester and once in the spring. Applicants should forward a resume and cover letter describing interest in serving on the board to: Kelly Mroz, Director, 222 Boucke Building or via email to mroz@psu.edu.
The Student Legal Services (SLS) Advisory Board provides general guidance and support for SLS programs. The board offers input regarding the office’s strategic direction and informs preventative education efforts. Board members provide connections between the office, the student body and the surrounding community.
Goals:
- To help shape the strategic direction of SLS;
- To provide insight into students’ needs and perceptions of the office;
- To share the mission of SLS and encourage support of the program within the student body and community.
Responsibilities Include:
- Attend two board meetings per year, one Fall semester, one Spring semester;
- Provide insights into student needs to help develop and refine the strategic direction of the office;
- Represent the advisory board at outreach events, as needed;
- Assist the office in interviewing for attorney and staff vacancies, as needed;
- Help recruit future advisory board members;
- Participate in SLS assessment efforts; and
- Serve a one-year renewable term.
