Those in the Criminal Justice field uphold the laws and protect the people of this country at the local, state, and national level. Internships in the field give valuable insight into what a career will be like. Interns tend to come from various majors and acquire skills that are transferable to any career. A position in the criminal justice field can also open up other opportunities in the field for students after graduation.
Students are encouraged to apply for enrichment funding if they obtain a position. Students can find out more about enrichment funds, including important deadlines and application instructions on the Career Enrichment Network website.
The following are some examples of internships in Criminal Justice that are available on Network Symplicity:
Penn State Justice and Safety Institute- Fall 2016 Internship (Deadline 4/8)
The Justice and Safety Institute is seeking applications for a paid internship to a qualified undergraduate student in the following majors: Criminology, Sociology, Communications and Business. Interns will work with the service marketing manager to perform research and provide abstracts, participate in individual and team projects and meetings, and direct incoming and outgoing contact with potential class participants. This individual will also develop and distribute marketing materials. In order to be accepted into the internship program, applicants must be a current student with the ability to complete 3 course credits for a minimum of 150 hours on site.
Georgetown Law- Investigative Internship Program (Deadline 4/1)
Recognizing the need for high quality representation for indigent criminal defendants, the Criminal Justice Clinic was founded in 1960. The goal is to ensure that persons charged with criminal offenses have access to top-notch legal services. Georgetown Law provides them with energetic, innovative and dedicated attorneys. As part of the Criminal Defense & Prisoner Advocacy Clinic, Criminal Justice Clinic, and the Juvenile Justice Clinic, the Investigative Internship Program was founded in 1985 and continues today as an integral part of the success of our clinical program. Investigators work closely with clinic attorneys in all aspects of pre-trial preparation. In exchange for the interns’ assistance, Georgetown Law offers a hands-on educational and working environment.
Investigative interns are involved in all aspects of case preparation including providing strategic recommendations. Attorneys are encouraged to include their interns on consultations, plea negotiations, client meetings and strategy sessions.
Adult Probation and Parole Services Summer Internship (Deadline 5/2)
Lancaster County Adult Probation and Parole Services is highly interested in providing numerous internship opportunities to Junior or Senior students pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in sociology, social work, psychology, or criminal justice. They are looking for students who are not only interested in pursuing a career in criminal justice, but a career in social services.
Internship positions are open year round and are unpaid. Opportunities exist in all of the programs for both part-time and full-time internships for a full semester. As a rule, both shadowing and hands-on experience as much as possible with our interns is encouraged, granting them the opportunity to participate in client contacts (both in the office and out in the field), court proceedings, treatment team meetings, gaining experience in an office environment, etc.
Chester County Juvenile Probation Department- Fall Internship (Deadline 4/15)
The Juvenile Probation Department is dedicated to providing hands-on non-paid educational internship/practicum experiences to qualified graduate and undergraduate students in the following majors: Criminal Justice, Sociology, Psychology, Social Work and other Social Service fields. In order to be accepted into the internship program, applicants must have the ability to be awarded college credit for their successful participation.
