Are you interested in the news? Do you have excellent written and verbal skills? If so, an internship in journalism could be a rewarding and fascinating experience. Applicants don’t always have majors in journalism, and often come from majors within the Liberal Arts. Based on the internship you apply to, you could also have the opportunity to create publications about a subjects and issues about which you are passionate.
Here are some examples of positions on Network Symplicity that have a basis in journalism or editorial work:
Editorial Intern- American Horticultural Society (FA16)
While working closely with the staff of the AHS Communications Department, interns will gain experience in all facets of the editorial and production processes for The American Gardener, a national, four-color magazine published in both print and digital editions. Primary duties include researching and writing short articles, proofreading and fact-checking, compiling an event calendar, and coordinating author and photographer submissions. Interns may also participate in related communications projects, such as book editing, website updates, social networking, and photography/videography.
Editorial internships with the American Horticultural Society are open to any undergraduate or graduate student of journalism, English, horticulture, or related fields, and to post-graduates with relevant experience who are making a career change or seeking additional training.
Journalism Internship- The Daily Caller (SU16- Deadline 5/1)
The Daily Caller, a 24-hour online news publication is seeking a journalism intern who is interested in a fast-paced, exciting workplace that values motivation and innovation. As an intern at the Daily Caller, you will be involved with all facets of the 24-hour news publication, from aggregating articles to producing original pieces. Interns will also be assigned work by the staff as needed which will focus on electronic research, but could encompass other duties as well. As a Journalism Intern, you will work closely with the Editorial Staff to monitor and produce original content.
Style Guru- College Fashionista (SU16- Deadline 5/1)
CollegeFashionista.com is looking for ambitious, goal-orientated interns this summer to report on the fashion trends happening on their campus. College Fashionista interns, aka Style Gurus, are in charge of capturing street style photography around their college campus as well as creating articles based on their findings. Style Gurus contribute up to two posts per month during the duration of the internship as well as participate in bi-monthly Instagram chats with fashion industry executives, webinars and other skill building exercises. Interns also have the opportunity to work on brand campaigns and home page features. This internship is looking for applicants with backgrounds in journalism or photography.
Journalism Internship Seminars in Madrid- RoosterGNN Global News Network (SU16- Deadline 6/5)
The Journalism Internship Seminars reflect the real dynamics of editorial meetings, in which articles, interviews and photos are presented, selected and subsequently published in a global news agency. The seminars, including the editorial meetings, mentoring sessions, workshops and feedback, are held in English and Spanish.
Students will be evaluated continually throughout the Program, and remaining enrolled in the Internship Program will be necessarily linked to the student’s compliance of a minimum set of goals within the program.
