As many of you are aware Haiti experienced a devastating earthquake this past week. One of our own advisers, Marie Villefranche, a native of Haiti, has extended family who live in the Port-au-Prince region.
To date, they have not been in communication with Marie and her family in the States. The College of the Liberal Arts Office of Undergraduate Studies would like to extend our thoughts and best wishes for Marie and her family.
For those who would like to support the recovery and the relief effort, please visit the following organizations: Yele Haiti, the Red Cross, World Vision, Oxfam, or Partners in Health.

It’s shocking how lives can be changed so drastically and tragically in an instant…for those in Haiti and for those, like Marie, who are desperate for news from Haiti.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Marie and her family, along with all of the other unfortunate victims of this tragedy. Members of my extended family adopted two adorable girls from Haiti (Lily and Neryse) and I am very thankful that they are safe with us and were not a part of tragedy in their homeland. My heart goes out to their birth families and to Marie’s family everytime I watch the news or read an article, updating us on the situation.

Thanks for the post Chris. The advising team is concerned for Marie and her family and we are keeping them in our thoughts at this very difficult time while they wait for some news of their loved ones.
