This class will offer an overview of major writers of the post-WWII era through a double focus on myth and the media of creative expression, especially fiction’s most common form: the novel. The course readings will be drawn from the following: Octavia Butler, Anne Carson, Don DeLillo, Junot Diaz, Shelley Jackson, Denis Johnson, Nathaniel Mackey, N. Scott Momaday, Toni Morrison, Michael Ondaatje, Cynthia Ozick, Thomas Pynchon, Ishmael Reed, Philip Roth, and William T. Vollmann.
