Do you want to leverage your passion and education to address challenges in developing countries?
The Humanitarian Engineering and Social Entrepreneurship (HESE) Program provides integrated learning, research and global entrepreneurship opportunities. HESE brings together passionate students and faculty from various disciplines to develop innovative and practical technology-based solutions to address global challenges. Biomedical Engineering students can work on various food security and healthcare-related ventures like Affordable Greenhouses, Ukweli Test Strips, Mashavu Health Solutions, and AngelAid Disability Education System.
Students will be working on various aspects of research, design, field-testing and implementation of these ventures in the Spring 2016 semester with travel to Sierra Leone in West Africa planned for three weeks in the Maymester. (Travel is optional). Travel funding is available through Liberal Arts, HESE, and several other PSU entities.
For Spring 2016, students need to sign up for:
EDSGN 453: Design for Developing Communities Seminar
EDSGN 452: Projects in Humanitarian Engineering
