Last year on this very day, January 12, a 7.0 earthquake struck Haiti. As the earth shook, buildings tumbled and pavements ripped, parents were torn from their kids, wives from husbands, brothers from sisters and neighbors from each other. However, during these devastating days, your support and good will for Haiti shone in the dark. Individuals from the department of Economics, the College of the Liberal Arts, the Smeal College of Business and the rest of the Penn State community reached out to my family and me. Your outpouring of support and prayers profoundly moved us. Many reached deep in their hearts and wallets and donated money to help my family and I help those in Haiti. Your kind words, contributions and support were deeply appreciated. Your donations were instrumental in providing tents, food and transportation to the victims of the earthquake.
As the year comes to a close, I would like to thank you again for your generosity and ask that you continue to keep Haiti in your thoughts and prayers.
All my best,
Marie Villefranche
