Global Programs Seeking Orientation Leaders

Penn State Global Programs is seeking multiple Orientation Leaders (both undergraduate and graduate) to work during International Student Orientation (ISO). These students will help Penn State welcome our incoming international students by facilitating information sessions, guiding students to events/social gatherings, and assisting with moving students from temporary housing to permanent on-campus housing. Orientation Leaders can work Summer 2018 orientation (June 21-24) and/or Fall 2018 orientation (graduate orientation: August 5-8, undergraduate orientation: August 9-15). Previous experience living abroad or working with diverse groups is a plus.

Cargill Global Scholars Program 2017-2018 Launch

Cargill and the Institute of International Education (IIE) are pleased to announce the launch of the 2017-2018 Cargill Global Scholars Program application cycle. As a valued partner university of the Cargill Global Scholars Program, we are very pleased that two Pennsylvania State University students have been selected as scholars since the inception of the program in 2013.

We look forward to receiving more applications for this year’s competition from eligible Pennsylvania State University students who:

  • Are in their freshman or sophomore year of undergraduate studies
  • Are a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  • Demonstrate high academic performance and leadership potential

Students in the following fields of interest are encouraged to apply:

  • Agriculture Related Fields
  • Business
  • Computer Science
  • Economics
  • Engineering
  • Food Science
  • International Relations
  • Political Science
  • Public Policy

Ten scholars will be chosen in the United States for the sixth cohort of the Cargill Global Scholars Program.
The scholars will receive:

  • Annual scholarship award of $2,500 for up to two years
  • Fully funded travel and participation to attend two Leadership Development Seminars held during
    Summer 2018 and Summer 2019
  • In-person networking with fellow scholars from Brazil, China, India, Indonesia, and Russia
  • One-on-one mentorship from Cargill executives in the United States and abroad

You’re Invited! Deloitte Undergraduate Case Competition

Are you interested in learning more about Technology, Human Capital, or Strategy & Operations Consulting?

Do you enjoy working in an interactive team to solve real-life business challenges?

If yes, we invite you to participate in the Deloitte Consulting Undergraduate Case Competition to:

  •   Gain real world, hands on experience
  •   Meet Deloitte Consulting leaders
  •   Win and take home a prize

Teams should consist of up to 4 current undergraduate students (freshman and sophomores only, please). All majors are welcome.

Timing: School Competitions will be taking place at universities in February and March 2018. Penn State’s Case Competition will take place on Thursday, February 1st and Friday, February 2nd.

Applications: Team applications are due by Friday, January 19th. To participate, please submit an application online for your group at www.deloitte.com/us/undergradcasecomp. Please note, you will need to submit your team’s resumes and an essay response to apply, we recommend reviewing the “Apply Now” link in advance.

National Competition: If successful in your school’s competition, your team will go to the National Undergrad Case Competition at Deloitte University on March 8-10th with all expenses covered!

Land O’Lakes Global Food Challenge

Land O’Lakes, Inc. Offers Global Internship Opportunity for Class of 2020 for 2017-2018

Land O’Lakes, Inc. is welcoming students in the class of 2020 the opportunity to apply for the Global Food Challenge Emerging Leaders for Food Security program.
Current freshman (sophomores during the 2017-2018 academic year) interested in exploring issues in agriculture and who are inspired to help solve the global food challenge are encouraged to apply for the program that runs from December 2017 through August 2018.

The fellowship offers a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to gain experience outside the classroom during the year-long program including:

  • An 11-week paid summer internship in summer 2018
  • Travel to Washington D.C. and a to-be-determined global destination as a part of the summer internship (included in the program)
  • Working with a team, university mentors and Land O’Lakes employees to develop a proposal that solves a real-world agricultural issue for Land O’Lakes, Inc.
  • Participation in a number of special events between December 2017 and October 2018
  • Serving as an ambassador for agriculture and the food industry

Eligibility requirements

  1. Expected graduation date of May 2020 or December 2020
  2. Must be available for 11-week Summer Experience May – August 2018
  3. Must be eligible to work in the United States

The Harvard Business School (HBS) Summer Venture in Management Program (SVMP) is a one-week residential educational program for rising college seniors (who have completed their junior year of college by June 2017) designed to increase diversity and opportunity in business education. Founded over 30 years ago, this HBS tradition demonstrates the many rewards of an MBA degree to students who may not otherwise have considered this path. Participants spend a week on campus living the MBA student experience – attending classes, analyzing case studies, and debating management issues with peers and faculty.
This unique educational experience gives participants a broader understanding of the challenges business leaders face, the innumerable opportunities that exist in management, and the impact they can have on their community and the world with a graduate business education. Participants will be selected based on academic achievement, demonstrated leadership, and personal characteristics. Consistent with the objective of promoting educational diversity and opportunity in business leadership, additional criteria to be considered among others, are whether the applicant is:
  • The first family member to attend college;
  • A member of a group that is currently underrepresented in business schools and corporate America (e.g. African-American, Latino, Native American, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, or Transgender);
  • From a family with little business education or experience; and/or
  • From a school whose graduates do not typically attend a top-tier university (e.g., attends a rural or predominantly minority college, or has attended a community college as part of a four-year degree).

Applicants must be US citizens or permanent residents and secure an internship for the summer of 2017 (through an organization or self-employment) in order to apply.

The SVMP application will be available online March 1st, 2017. The application deadline is May 3rd, 2017.
