SCHOTT North America’s Heinrich J. Klein Foundation International Exchange

Scholarship Heinrich J. Klein Foundation
The objective of the H. J. Klein Foundation is to sponsor international exchange by granting scholarships to students (m/f) for a stay abroad. Support is granted to students (m/f) of all specialist fields who have shown proven commitment/ involvement in fostering international exchange.

Heinrich J. Klein and his wife Dr. Liesel Klein brought the foundation into being by contributing a considerable sum from their private funds. The application process is handled by SCHOTT AG

For your application we need the following documents in English:\

  • Letter of motivation
  • Curriculum Vitae/Resume
  • Transcript of records (current grades)
  • Description of how you personally have been supporting international exchange and/or extra-curricular activities in the past
  • Overview of estimated costs
  • Letter of recommendation by the responsible professor
  • Letter of confirmation of the respective professor abroad

Your skill set and qualification:

  • Good academic results (above average)
  • Commitment to international exchange
  • Engagement outside school, studies or job
  • Communicative character
  • Interpersonal skills
  • Open-minded and outgoing
  • Internationally mobile
  • Fluent English skills

Our offer to you:

As long as you are an active Liberal Arts student the semester in which your enrichment activity is occurring, you can apply for funds! Applicants must complete the template statement, itemized budget, and submit an acceptance letter for their program. Applying for funds for an internship in business or the private sector? Don’t forget to submit for the Chapel Executive Internship Program! Applicants who are not selected for the Chapel Executive Internship Program will automatically be considered for general enrichment funds.

Apply to the Chapel Executive Internship Program! Recipients will receive $5,000 in enrichment funding!

Liberal Arts students who are not selected for the Chapel Executive Internship Program will automatically be considered for our general Liberal Arts Enrichment Funds. There is no need to submit a separate application.

Chapel Executive Internship Program Supports Liberal Arts Students

CHAPEL Blog GraphicLast year, Penn State alumna Virginia ‘Jinnie’ Todd Chapel and her husband, John, made a leadership gift of $1 million to support premium internships, particularly in the private sector, for Liberal Arts students who excel academically and who seek high-quality career development opportunities. This generous endowment makes it possible to provide nearly 20 students each year with $5,000 in enrichment funding.

Over the past year, Liberal Arts students from different degree programs, participating in a wide variety of internships in the business/private sector have benefited from the Virginia Todd Chapel Executive Internship Program.

Enrichment Funding Myths

Are you participating in an education abroad, internship, or research program? Wondering how you can receive funds to support your experience? Apply for Liberal Arts Enrichment Funds!

As long as you are an active Liberal Arts student the semester in which your enrichment activity is occurring, you can apply for funds!

We wanted to clarify some myths about the application process and requirements.

Myth #1: Most applicants don’t receive enrichment funding.

This couldn’t be further from the truth! Thanks to the generosity of our alumni, we are able to make enrichment awards to the majority of students who apply, if they meet the requirements and are participating in an appropriate experience. In fact, last academic year, we were able to provide enrichment funds to 97% of the Liberal Arts students who applied. While, our awards cannot cover the full cost of each experience, we do our best to help you make these enrichment activities more affordable! But you have to apply to be considered!

Myth #2: Demonstrated financial need is required to apply for funds.

Demonstrated financial need is NOT a requirement! Financial need is taken into consideration in the review process, but it is not a requirement. Even if you did not fill out FAFSA, you should apply for enrichment funds. We know that enrichment experiences can be expensive, even for students without demonstrated financial need.

Myth #3: Only top academic performers receive enrichment funds.

Don’t have a 4.0 GPA? That’s okay! While academic performance is taken into consideration in the review process, we do not have a GPA requirement for most of our funds. Bottom line here: never assume you won’t be eligible based on your academic record. (Note: certain funds like the Chapel Executive Internship Program do have GPA minimum requirements).

Myth #4: I have to be registered for credit to receive funds.

Liberal Arts students do NOT have to be registered for academic credit for their experience to receive enrichment awards. However, students who have graduated prior to their enrichment activity may not apply for enrichment funds.

Myth #5: The application process will take too much of my time.

Definitely not true! The application process is incredibly easy and available online. Applicants must submit a statement, itemized budget, and acceptance letter. The templates for the statements and budgets are available on our website. Once you hit submit, make sure you receive an email from our system indicating your application was received. Not sure if we got your application? Never hesitate to contact us to confirm you application was received!

We cannot award students funds unless they apply, so make sure you submit your application!

Are you participating in an internship, study abroad, or research experience? Enrichment Funds applications are being accepted for the spring 2015 semester.

The College of the Liberal Arts recognizes the importance of these enrichment experiences. Consequently, we have funds available, thanks to the generosity of our alumni donors, to support students engaging in these experiences.

The application is easy and available online. Apply today for Liberal Arts Enrichment Funds to support your internship, study abroad, or research experience.

To apply, students must have at least one declared Liberal Arts major and be considered undergraduate students the semester during which the experience is taking place. Demonstrated financial need is NOT required to be eligible for these funds.

While the priority deadline for the fall 2014 semester has passed, Liberal Arts students may still submit applications for experiences occurring in the fall.
