J. M. Coetzee, winner of the 2003 Nobel Prize in Literature, will be awarded the Institute for the Arts and Humanities Medal for Distinguished Achievement and will give a public reading on October 18 at 7:00 p.m. at the State Theatre. Born in South Africa, and now a resident of Australia, Coetzee is the author of many translations, nonfictional works, and novels including Disgrace, Foe, The Life and Times of Michael K, and Waiting for the Barbarians.
