AmeriCorps Opening with the Penn State Student Farm

The Sustainable Food Systems Program is a Penn State program that seeks to enable student initiative, hands-on learning and service across the food system. Core components include a one-acre Student Farm, course-client collaborative projects, the Student Farm Club, and a range of educational, research and outreach initiatives. Sustainable Food Systems Program AmeriCorps
We are seeking a 30-hour per week AmeriCorps member to build capacity within the Sustainable Food Systems Program (SFSP), in support of our goals of 1) enhancing education about gardening, the food system and nutrition, and 2) strengthening the local economy and community through growing, marketing and donating local foods. Under supervision of the SFSP Program Manager, the AmeriCorps member will collaborate with students, faculty, community organizations and volunteers to design, implement and evaluate programs that support food security, local economic development and personal engagement with the food system.
AmeriCorps responsibilities will include:
1. Collaborate with community partners, university departments, students and faculty to develop and sustain programming of the SFSP.
2. Support SFSP course-client collaborations by developing and coordinating partnerships between university faculty and courses, and local food and agriculture systems organizations, such as area food banks, the local food cooperative and Central PA Community Action.
3. Recruit, train and provide support to volunteers serving with the SFSP and community partners.
4. Research and develop new educational and outreach initiatives such as gardening, healthy food access and market opportunities for local producers.
5. Conduct outreach to relevant target stakeholder groups.
6. Attend and support meetings and events of the Centre County Food Systems Coalition.
7. Coordinate with the Centre County Food Systems Coalition to plan and carry out county-wide events and activities focused on enhancing the food system.
8. Develop and implement tools for continuously tracking program outcomes. Present program outcomes and data to university, governmental and community stakeholders.
9. Complete various other projects that help to develop and sustain the SFSP.

Qualifications:
1. Must meet all Penn State clearance and background check requirements.
2. Superb written, interpersonal and oral communication skills.
3. Able to learn quickly, prioritize multiple projects, manage schedule independently, meet deadlines and enjoy a fast-paced work environment.
4. Able to work with diverse groups and individuals in indoor and outdoor settings.
5. An interest in and knowledge about food systems concepts and/or community organizing preferred.
6. Valid driver’s license, own transportation, computer and internet access.
7. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Position location: Penn State University in State College, PA
Service term: January 17-August 11, 30 hours per week (900 hours)
AmeriCorps stipend: $6,625 divided and distributed biweekly over the term and education award eligible

Basic Info and Goals

Liberal Arts Career Week is a week-long event from January 16-20, 2017.  We try to offer a wide range of events to provide all Liberal Arts majors with a chance to develop professional skills and to network with employers from the public and private sectors, and alumni from all backgrounds!

Apps Open for Foreign Service Diplomatic Security Special Agents

We are currently accepting applications for Diplomatic Security Special Agent (DSSA) positions.

Diplomatic Security Special Agents are specially trained Foreign Service security professionals; they are also sworn Federal law enforcement officers. Special Agents who serve overseas as the Regional Security Officer advise ambassadors on all security matters and manage a complex range of security programs designed to protect personnel, facilities, and information. In the United States, Special Agents protect the Secretary of State and visiting foreign dignitaries, investigate passport and visa fraud, and conduct personnel security investigations.

All potential applicants are strongly urged to read the entire vacancy announcement to ensure that they meet all of the requirements for this position before applying. Department of State Accepting Applications for Consular Fellows – Spanish Positions

The Consular Fellows Program (CFP) is a unique national service opportunity with the Department of State to live and work overseas as part of an Embassy or Consulate community.

New hires will receive a competitive salary, paid housing while overseas and may be eligible for a recruitment bonus of up to 10% of their basic salary. This incentive would be paid in two installments: one upon completion of the first two-year assignment, and the second at the end of the second two-year assignment (48 months service). Liberal Arts Career Week is a week-long event from January 16-20, 2017 and is designed to provide students with opportunities to develop professional skills and provide networking opportunities that will support their future career paths. By participating in this week’s employer and alumni panels, workshops, and networking events, students can learn skills needed to embark on their career journey and achieve success in their professional lives.

This year we plan on having a variety of events, including:

The Greenlining Academy works to empower and develop the next generation of multi-ethnic leaders to advance racial and economic equity and create positive social change. We seek to develop a network of visionary leaders ready to work across racial and ethnic lines to address America’s most pressing problems and develop sustainable solutions rooted in equity and justice.
Fellowship Program
The Fellowship Program is a year-long training program for young leaders who have completed, at minimum, their undergraduate degrees by the start of the program. Fellows are assigned to specific program areas and develop expertise with the direction of a Program Manager and the Academy Director. Each Fellowship experience is unique and is shaped by the current policy focus of their program area. We recruit Policy Fellows, who have completed a t least an undergraduate degree, and Legal Fellows, who are recent law school graduates

Compensation: Policy fellows: $47,500/year, Legal fellows: $53,000/year+ Bar compensation

Summer Associates
he Academy Summer Associate Program is an intensive, 10-week development program for young leaders who have completed, at minimum, their undergraduate degrees by the start of the program. Associates learn about issues impacting California and the nation and manage research and advocacy projects under the direction of a Greenlining staff member. An undergraduate degree is required.
Duration: June 5th 2017–August 11th 2017
Compensation: All associates receive a stipend of $5,500 for 10 weeks, paid out bi-monthly
